God has blessed us in so many ways! As we start this new year we are trying to imagine what God has in store for us, what God might be dreaming for us. What dreams do we have that might reflect God’s own longing? So far we have dreamed about growing closer to Christ as disciples, growing in faith and in number as a congregation, and doing justice to reflect God’s reign to the world. This week we’ll dream about God’s dream of abundance for the earth. From the stories of creation to the stories of the Exodus, to the oracles of the prophets and the psalms of the wise, to the Gospels, to the images of the resurrection life in the New Heaven and New Earth, God provides abundantly for all the creatures of this world, even for the humans. Scarcity appears to be an aberration, often resulting from the collective brokenness of human relationships and cultural systems. When Jesus appeared and the Messianic Age was begun, he brought abundance with him, like at the wedding in Cana, our text for the day. What can we learn about God and what can we expect from God when we seek the abundant life that Jesus Christ promised?
