It's Pentecost Sunday! Fifty days (the "pente" in Pentecost) after Easter we celebrate the pouring out of the Holy Spirit and the beginning of the Church's ministry after Jesus had ascended to heaven. The disciples had been waiting for this thing Jesus had told them about, and they were busy hiding while they were at it. When the Spirit came, though, it drove them out into the crowds in Jerusalem where they began telling everyone about the amazing things God was doing through the Risen Christ. We celebrate that transforming power in our worship this week and reenact the movements of expecting the Spirit, receiving the Spirit, and living with the Spirit. Our liturgy for the day is a bit different, but hopefully it will be a meaningful and welcome change of pace.
There are several sections in the video ("Reflection and Prayer") where there appears to be nothing happening, but the congregation was pondering and discussing the various questions posed by Pastor David about the passages we were reading and about experiences of the Holy Spirit. We encourage you as you follow along to take whatever time you need to answer these questions, too, as they appear on the screen. You don't have to answer them all, of course, but we hope you will spend time especially with whichever questions resonate with your spirit. Whether that resonance is "Ooh! I know this!" or "Wow, I have no idea!", open your mind and spirit to the work of God within you to find and/or express your answer. It doesn't have to be perfect or even complete. The goal is to be aware of what God is trying to say to you today.
