Bible Text: Micah 6:1-8, Matthew 5:1-12 |

This week's gospel lesson is the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, a three-chapter collection of Jesus' teachings in the book of Matthew. We start with a group of sayings called the Beatitudes, from the Latin for "Blessed," the first word of each saying. You might not think that a dozen blessings would be at all controversial, but that is not the way of the world. In fact, these blessings are not the way of the world, and that's what makes them jarring, or comforting, depending on where you are in the order of things. Listening to Jesus here may be a great source of hope for the human race. Come and see what you think!
