Last week we started in on the Sermon on the Plain (Luke’s parallel to Matthew’s Sermon on the Mount), with the blessings and the woes. It seemed pretty uncomfortable in places to think Jesus was serious when he said the poorest of the poor are blessed in God’s economy, while the rich, well-fed, and happy folks are headed for trouble and sorrow. Well, guess what. It doesn’t get any more comfortable this week, because Jesus makes his most audacious demand on his disciples. You know the one: Love your enemies and do good to those who hate you. Aw, come on, Jesus! Who could do that? Oh, right, you did it all the time. So, how can we, who are so transactional, learn to be Christlike when it’s just not fair?

Our music director Don Burgess was out sick, so music was provided by Jeff Bean who stepped up just a couple hours before the service. Thanks Jeff!
