This week we have a couple texts that point us toward the humility of Jesus Christ. One is from the book of Hebrews that describes why Jesus makes a perfect high priest. The other is from Mark where two of Jesus’ disciples, James and John, ask for a promotion and it doesn’t turn out the way they expected. The other disciples get mad, and Jesus says (1) no and (2) the way you get to be great in the kingdom of God is not the same as in the kingdoms of the world. So we will explore these things a bit in their context, then in our context. How are we doing with the whole service thing? What does this text have to say to the Church in the United States with an election looming? Are we going there? Yep.
How do you react to Jesus saying his followers should be “servants”? What if we use the translation “slaves”? Let us know in the comments.
