Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, Luke 6:17-26 |

We are still in the season of Epiphany, which means revealing, so the passages we are reading tell about how Jesus was revealed to be the Christ and Son of God. The gospel lesson today is from the "Sermon on the Plain," Luke's first significant collection of Jesus' teachings. Here we find the blessings and woes (mirrored in Matthew 5). Jesus is helping people understand how things work in the Kingdom of God, which is not necessarily what anyone is used to. The epistle lesson from 1 Corinthians 15 is a reminder that the root of our Christian faith is the Resurrection of Jesus and the promise of new life for all who believe in him.
