Series: Summer Road Trip Through Spiritual Practices
We are continuing our series on Christian spiritual practices, with just a couple left. These practices are intended to help us experience a closer relationship with God in Jesus Christ by making us more intentional about how we spend our time, thoughts, and energy. Rather than living a passive life of faith, practicing actions that embody our faith will make it literally come to life. So this week we will examine the practice of hospitality. This is the last of the practices in Marjorie Thompson's book Soul Feast, which has been a guide to us in this series. Hospitality, the intentional caring for the needs of guests and strangers, was an assumed part of life in the ancient Near East, but like so many things in our culture it has been delegated to its own industry and has become a commodity. We will consider some biblical examples of hospitality and its opposite, the theology of hospitality, and some ways to incorporate hospitality into our own lives and the life of our church.
