Series:

It's week 5 of our series on Christian spiritual practices, our "road trip" for this summer. So far we've stopped to "see" lectio divina, prayer, and our worship together, after acknowledging our spiritual hunger that makes these practices attractive in the first place. This time we're stopping at a destination where not too many people go anymore in western Protestantism: fasting. But Pastor, you might be saying, didn't we do Lent already this year? Ah, very clever! Yes, fasting is often associated with Lent, but historically Christians have fasted as a regular practice until fairly recently. Why would anyone do such a thing? Well, if nothing else gets you to stop for a look, we'll talk about that very thing and how fasting might be the spiritual answer to everything that is wrong with our world.
