Bible Text: Judges 2:8, 10-19, John 5:19-30 |

Series:

In Week 2 of Advent we continue our sermon series examining biblical models of who the Messiah is. Last week was the Priest, and this week is the Judge. Judges served not only as deciders of cases in ancient Israel but also, and especially, as liberators. When the nation was oppressed by foreign enemies (as a natural consequence of their disobeying God), God would have mercy on them by raising up a judge to rescue them. People in the first centuries BC and AD were expecting such a judge to appear to free Judea from the Romans. And God sent Jesus. So how does Jesus function as Judge? We'll take a look!
