Bible Text: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21, Luke 15:1-3, 11-32 |

Series:

The season of Lent is a time of preparation for the feast of Easter that leads us with Jesus on the road to the cross. Some of the religious leaders of Jesus' day were not at all happy about him associating with tax collectors and sinners, so he told them a few stories about God's diligent hope to reclaim the lost. Today's passage is very familiar, usually called the parable of the Prodigal Son, although it is also called the parable of the Two Lost Sons, of the Long-suffering Father, or of the Rightly Indignant Older Brother, depending on who you talk to. Anyway, the point is Jesus fulfills the role of the Christ by offering God's radical welcome. We have a couple choices to make in response: will we join the party, and is there anyone we think (as the Pharisees did) doesn't belong at the party?
