Bible Text: Philippians 4:1-13, Matthew 22:1-14 |

A look at the somewhat disturbing parable of the king's wedding feast, the unworthy guests, and the man thrown bound into the outer darkness for wearing the wrong outfit. Is this really supposed to be our God? Or is there another interpretation more in keeping with what we know of the kingdom of heaven?

Notes from the Preacher

I mentioned the essay by Debie Thomas at "Journey with Jesus" that was seminal for the sermon and from which I borrowed several thoughts. It is entitled "The God Who Isn't," and you can read it here.

I mentioned our Presbyterian theology, too, especially regarding election, predestination, and the perseverance of the saints. Here's an article about John Calvin and Calvinism that you might find interesting or helpful. Please note that Calvin did not come up with everything in Calvinism specifically. Some of the Calvinist doctrines are extensions of his thought by those who came after him. Nevertheless, the article is informative.
