Bible Text: Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-7, Matthew 4:1-11 |

This year the passages for Lent show Jesus interacting with a wide variety of characters, from the devil to his dead friend Lazarus. Each one has many lessons to teach, of course, but they all show us Jesus withstanding forces, both human and spiritual, that work against the Kingdom he proclaims. So this will be our focus for these five Sundays: Withstanding. Jesus found ways to withstand withering assaults, and with him we can, too. The first week shows us Jesus in the wilderness being tempted by the devil. We'll look at the forms of temptation, how Jesus fended it off, and how we can withstand the temptations that come our way.
