Bible Text: Matthew 25:14-30 |

Series:

As we draw near to the end of the liturgical year, we also come near to the end of Matthew's gospel. For these couple of weeks we will be looking at the parables of Matthew 25. These are not easy parables! They are told in Jerusalem, overlooking the doomed temple, and are the last of Jesus' public ministry before the passion begins. They are part of a larger discourse on the end of the age and the return of the Son of Man, so they are filled with dire warning.

The second of the parables here is about three slaves who are put in charge of significant amounts of their master's money. It is commonly called the Parable of the Talents, because the slaves receive multiple talents, a talent believed to have been about 75 pounds of gold or silver. So these slaves were each entrusted with a huge sum of cash. We'll take a look at their investment strategies and results and the master's reactions to each, and also of course, what all this might mean for us.
