Bible Text: Luke 1: 39-56, Luke 2:1-20 |

Series:

This is the third Sunday of Advent, the season of spiritual preparation for the feast of Christmas and the coming of Christ - at Christmas, in our daily lives, and at the end of all things. This year we are exploring themes from the book *Christmas in the Four Gospel Homes* by Cynthia M. Campbell. Since Advent is four weeks, we will look at one gospel each week and how the author presents the appearing of Jesus Christ in the world. This is also the basis of our Wednesday Advent bible study, so you can double dip and dig in deep.

Our third visit is Luke's house. Many of the things we know and love about the Christmas story come from Luke's account. The couple traveling to Bethlehem, the lack of room, the shepherds, the angels – all these come from Luke's narrative. We find it to be a very practical and present telling of the story with a particular point to be made for an audience that was experiencing estrangement, vulnerability, and upheaval. That sounds like something that we might need in our time, too.
