Bible Text: Romans 12:9-21, Matthew 16:21-27 |

We continue the story from last week of Jesus exploring and explaining his identity with the disciples. Simon Peter acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God, but when Jesus talks about what that really means, Simon is not pleased. He actually rebukes Jesus! (Pro tip: That rarely turns out well.) What is it about humans that we become so attached to our ideas of how things should work that we resist new understanding? Can you think of any situations like that in our culture? (*Cough cough* masks, conspiracy theories, racism *cough cough*) Perhaps Jesus can help us get beyond the things we are stuck on.
