This week we begin exploring Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, the first of his major teaching discourses as recorded in Matthew's gospel. The sermon begins with the Beatitudes, a list of nine blessings Jesus describes that don't fit conventional understanding of blessing. In a similar way, in 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul makes it clear that salvation from God doesn't come with flashy signs or grand wisdom, but through the cross and suffering of Jesus Christ. Jesus and Paul both tell us if you want to find God, you have to know where to look.
