Bible Text: Matthew 16:13-20, Matthew 16:21-28 |

Series:

This week we return to the weekly lectionary (suggested Bible readings) at a turning point in the Gospel according to Matthew. It's a pretty well known story about Jesus checking in with his disciples about public opinion concerning himself. "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" Then he puts a little sharper point on it: "Who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter gives a pretty good answer: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." This gets tested in the next paragraph as Jesus starts telling people about the mission and fate of the Christ, to suffer and die but to rise again. Simon doesn't think that's right and says so! Jesus suggests his view is too narrow. And how wide and high and deep is our view of who Jesus Christ is?

We will celebrate the sacrament of communion this week. Any who want to join us virtually will need some bread and some juice or wine, preferably from fruit of the vine. Then just follow along with us in the service, eating and drinking when we eat and drink.
