Bible Text: Genesis 1:1-5, Mark 1:4-11 |

Welcome to the first Sunday of the new year! It is Baptism of the Lord Sunday, and we will be ordaining and installing our new class of elders. We'll also celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. If you want to participate with us virtually, you'll need some bread (or something close) and some wine or juice or fruit of the vine. When we get to that part of the service, just follow along and do as we do. Pastor David is back from vacation and ready to start the new year.

The gospel lesson this week is, oddly enough, the baptism of Jesus, as told by Mark. This is how Mark begins his book. This is how Jesus began his public ministry. And baptism is how we begin our membership in the Church. It is loaded with rich theological and symbolic meaning, but at its core baptism anchors our identity in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We'll explore this just a bit today.
