Bible Text: Philippians 1:21-30 |

This is World Communion Sunday. While churches around the world celebrate communion on any given Sunday, this is a day when we pay attention to the fact and consciously celebrate together at the Table of the Lord. So if you wish to join in virtually, you'll need some bread and fruit of the vine (juice or wine) on hand. Then just follow along with us.

This week's sermon is changing direction as we move from Matthew's gospel to Paul's letter to the Philippians where we are going to spend the next few weeks. It is clear in this letter that the Apostle loved this church and its people. Both he and they were undergoing hardship because of their faith, so he spends much of the letter encouraging them to hold on to this new life in Christ. In our text today he even tells them they are citizens, not of the Empire, but of the Kingdom of heaven. So what does that mean, for them and for us? The best term for moving our citizenship to heaven is probably "naturalization."
